Elementary School
AJLA’s Elementary School is a place that fosters curiosity, self-confidence, relationships, risk-taking and a love of learning. Each AJLA student is known as an individual while being immersed in a safe, nurturing community.
LITERACY
Based on the science of Reading our Amplify curriculum explicitly teaches the literacy skills needed to be successful readers. It provides strong foundational skills including phonemic awareness, phonics, reading fluency and spelling. Our elementary school students spend more than two hours each day focused on reading, writing, listening, and speaking.
MATH
Bridges is the cornerstone of our math curriculum in our K-5th grades. Students develop a deeper understanding of new concepts through engaging teacher lessons, repeated practice, and enjoyable activities. Our goal as educators is to help our students develop their critical thinking and problem-solving skills so they may persevere, not just in the math classroom, but in the world at large. Our teachers focus on conceptual understanding as well as math fluency.
We pay careful attention to fundamental academic skills, while also providing engaging yearlong units of study that captivate, engage and challenge our students.
